The Jaipur Trophy

The Jaipur Trophy represents one of polo's most storied international legacies—a series of exhibitions spanning multiple countries and decades.

For over a century, Jaipur Polo has competed at the highest levels across Europe, India, and the United States. The institution has presented trophies to clubs worldwide, establishing a tradition of international competition rooted in competitive excellence and cultural exchange.

Led today by HH Sawai Padmanabh Singh, Maharaja of Jaipur, the Jaipur Trophy continues this legacy across three continents.

Legacy & Significance

The Jaipur Trophy emerged from an era when Indian polo dominated international competition. Between 1930 and 1938, Jaipur won the Indian Open Championship every year.

In 1933, Jaipur swept all open tournaments in Britain.

In 1957, the Indian national team, featuring Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II, won the World Cup Polo. These victories established Jaipur among the sport's most formidable institutions.

The trophy series reflects this competitive heritage. Presented to clubs across multiple countries, it represents not a single event but a sustained international presence built over generations.

The Revival

The contemporary Jaipur Trophy is a curated, invitation-led international exhibition. High-goal competition designed for quality, long-term continuity, and cultural exchange

The series now operates across three primary editions: the United Kingdom, the United States, and India. Each reflects the institution's commitment to competitive polo and international engagement.

Jaipur Trophy Editions

Jaipur Pachranga

United Kingdom

The Jaipur Trophy was first presented to Guards Polo Club in 1968 by HH Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. That inaugural match featured HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Prince of Wales, now HM King Charles III. The last match was played in 2014

After an eleven-year absence, the trophy returned to Guards Polo Club on July 19, 2025, during the inaugural Indian Polo Day. HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh brought the trophy home in an 8-7 victory on The Queen's Ground.

United States

The United States edition will be held in Palm Beach, a global center of high-goal polo. Set to revive in 2026, it will feature a Jaipur-led side against US or international select opposition.

The format brings Indian polo heritage to American audiences through refined competition and cultural engagement.

India

The India edition serves as the home staging of the Jaipur Trophy, played on the institution's historic grounds before domestic and international audiences.

It represents the continuation of a tradition dating to the early 1900s, when Jaipur established itself as a dominant force in international polo.

Format of the Exhibition

The Jaipur Trophy Exhibition follows a consistent format across all editions. A Jaipur-led side competes against select international opposition in high-goal matches, typically featuring 8-10 goals of competitive polo.

The emphasis remains on sport quality rather than spectator scale. Each edition is invitation-led, combining competitive integrity with refined hospitality and cultural engagement.

The format prioritises the sport, the horses, and the quality of play—designed for those who understand polo at its highest level.
